Under the direction of the Director of Communication and Stakeholder Engagement, and in collaboration with the Healthier Rice team, develop, implement and ensure the success of the program’s communication and stakeholder engagement strategy.
This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines.
Roles and Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Director for Communications and Stakeholder Engagement, design, refine, and implement a comprehensive communication and engagement strategy to support and actualize the goals of the Healthier Rice Program in the target countries of Bangladesh and the Philippines, and globally
Promote IRRI’s Healthier Rice Program, and maintain its reputation and credibility as an international scientific research and development program at IRRI in the following ways :
Monitor and evaluate the perceptions of stakeholders about the Healthier Rice program, and adjust strategy and plans as necessary
Anticipate potential issues that could put the Program’s reputation and / or research activities at risk, and develop and implement plans to mitigate them
Design and implement regular training / briefing activities for IRRI senior management, staff and other ambassadors to share up-
to-date information about Healthier Rice
Liaise with the IRRI Communication and Stakeholder Engagement team to include Healthier Rice information in institutional communication initiatives as appropriate, and to have other appropriate communication material included in the Healthier Rice communication activities
Manage the development, review and delivery of communication and marketing products and ensure high quality; scientific and technical accuracy;
consistency; and alignment with IRRI standards for images, terminology, and tone so that all communications about Healthier Rice are consistent
Oversee and expand the program’s stakeholder engagement and outreach activities beyond its current stakeholder base to ensure broad-
based acceptance in target countries and globally
Serve as a coordinator for the work of other Healthier Rice communicators based in various partner organizations and build strong productive relationships with all organizations participating in IRRI’s Healthier Rice-
related projects and activities, including :
National Rice Research institutes in the Philippines, Bangladesh and other areas National and international nutrition organizations, including Helen Keller International
Donors, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
Other programs, including HarvestPlus
Oversee IRRI Communications Specialists in implementing the Healthier Rice communication and engagement agenda in the Philippines, Bangladesh, and other areas
Supervise staff, including annual work plans and human resources evaluations, in conjunction with the Healthier Rice team leader and direct line manager
Ensure that staff have all necessary resources
Ensure that the Healthier Rice communication and engagement strategy is aligned with IRRI’s institutional strategy and established guidelines and policies
Ensure communication priorities for the individual projects within the program, including Golden Rice, High Iron and Zinc Rice, are taken into account
Provide regular tracking and reporting on stakeholder engagements, including risk assessments, successes and recommendations for action
Masters or Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Marketing, Public Policy or other related discipline with at least 7-10 years of relevant experience, with leadership skills and managerial responsibility in a global setting
Extensive experience working in a multicultural environment
Willingness and ability to work in high-pressure and challenging situations
Experience in the fields of communication, agriculture, nutrition, public policy
Experience implementing public advocacy programs
