Job Purpose

Under the minimal supervision of Scientist II Rice Breeding and Biofortification, facilitate the planning, designing, and implementation of all the experiments related to the Golden Rice Project, including but not limited to hybridization, data gathering, seed processing, and management, crop management and attend to all biosafety regulatory requirements and specific project goals and research objectives.

Constantly communicate with internal and external project partners and collaborators to exchange conceptual ideas and to effectively gather feedback and research-

related requirements for the advancement of the project. Consolidate, evaluate and analyze research data gathered from the project trials and contribute to manuscript for reports / publications as well as presentations / posters for national and international conferences.

Supervise, coach and guide scholars, OJTs, researchers and research technicians. Coordinate and prepare training sessions for a variety of people.

This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños,Philippinesand may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines.

Roles and Responsibilities

Purpose

  • Facilitate the planning, designing and implementation of all the experiments related to the Golden Rice Project, including but not limited to hybridization, data gathering, seed processing, and management, crop management and attend to all biosafety regulatory requirements and specific project goals and research objectives
  • Contribute to the development of research proposals including review of related literature, selection of adequate research tools and equipment, verification of suggested methodologies and establishment of parameters
  • Engagement

  • Constantly communicate with internal and external project partners and collaborators to exchange conceptual ideas and to effectively gather feedback and research-
  • related requirements for the advancement of the project

  • Provide assistance and guidelines to internal and external stakeholders considering the implementation of experiments, including logistics
  • Constantly monitor, evaluate and provide recommendations to improve research activities / tasks performed by Research technicians and Researchers in order to maintain smooth conduct of field and greenhouse experiments as well as to foster a productive working environment
  • Coordinate with required IRRI services and supplies to ensure smooth implementation of experiments
  • Delivery

  • Consolidate, evaluate and analyze research data gathered from the project trials.
  • Evaluate, validate and contribute to the interpretation of results contribute to the writing of manuscripts for reports / publications as well as presentations / posters for national and international conferences.
  • Prepare and submit updated of research outputs to the Scientist in a timely manner
  • Supervise and lead the maintenance of accurate data recording and update database for efficient storage and retrieval of information
  • Administer effective coordination and preparations of trainings by ensuring that the training materials, logistical arrangements and resource persons are appropriate to the defined objectives
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture major in Plant Breeding or related discipline and 4 years of relevant work experience in rice research or
  • Master of Science degree in Agriculture major in Plant Breeding / Genetics or related discipline and 1 year relevant work experience in rice research
  • Mandatory

  • Experience in rice breeding with special reference to healthier rice varieties development
  • Preferred

  • Knowledge of GMOs and statistical packages
