Position Overview

The Corporate Governance team is part of MSCI’s ESG business. Members of this team would be involved in researching the board structures, audit practices, executive remuneration, shareholder rights, culture and other salient features, which would assess the health of the Corporate Governance structure of the companies covered by MSCI.

The Corporate Governance Data Associate shall be primarily responsible for collecting and analyzing corporate governance information from issuer filings, press releases, company websites, and news reports for ensuring quality data input supporting various ESG products and services.

Scope of Responsibility

  • Searching and processing corporate governance information on MSCI’s CG universe using acceptable methods, techniques and sources
  • Developing subject matter expertise and taking ownership of corporate governance knowledge within the organization
  • Liaising and communicating effectively with other groups such ESG Research, Controversies and others to improve understanding of corporate governance and data collection methodologies
  • Conducting frequent research for the purpose of procuring, verifying and processing data by browsing through various financial, exchange and government regulator websites and materials as well as corporate governance databases.
  • Meeting pre-determined turn-around goals for work assignments
  • Updating internal documents for quality and productivity metrics monitoring
  • Ensuring adequate audit trails for the data received or sent from production systems
  • Adhere to quality assurance and quality control processes of the team on processed information for the companies and escalate QA issues when appropriate
  • Ensure timely and accurate delivery of data profiles in accordance with established production schedules
  • Research, recommend, and implement technology and content opportunities to improve product quality and operational efficiencies.
  • Work with other teams in support of planned product enhancements and extensions
  • Work on team adhoc projects, data clean-up, platform testing, etc from time to time
  • Specific Knowledge / Skills

  • Good judgment in assessing available information and converting them into scores or parameters applicable as per MSCI methodology (Analyst will be trained)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in Nihongo and English.

  • Desired Experience

  • Experience (i.e., library / information services / database research, etc.) in a high-quality and hard deadline-driven environment.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a Corporate Governance capacity is desirable but not required. Prior knowledge of corporate governance and / or financial markets is an advantage.
  • Desired Qualifications

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Company Law, or similar field of study.
  • Native speakers or analysts who've had extensive experience in translation work such as manuals, transcripts and annual reports are preferred.
  • JLPT level must be N1 or if N2 is already taking N1 accreditation.
