Responsibilities :
Maintain the air conditioning / heating and refrigeration systems :
Maintenance of this equipment shall include :
Follows safety procedures.
Completes tasks as assigned by the HVAC Supervisor.
Cooperate in the work of the other technicians as assigned.
6. Completes performance review process with supervisor to understand job performance expectations and how they fit into the department and university goals.
7. Communicate openly and recognize contributions of co-workers and supervisor.
8. Pursues professional development to keep pace with demands for services and information; including maintaining up to date information about the department and university.
Relationships :
Continuous contact with members of own work unit and immediate supervisor for planning, coordinating, problem solving, presenting information and suggestions related to mutual goals.
Maintain a professional attitude concerning opinions of others and tasks that are asked of them.
Frequent contact with members of other departments, students, and the general public to exchange factual information and explanation of rules, regulations, practices or functions.
Responsibility for Final Decisions :
Be responsible for your own work. Determines if equipment needs repair, renovation or replacement.
Responsible for research to determine availability and cost of parts and or systems replacement.
Determines if repairs can be completed in-house or if outside contractors are needed.
Tasks involve multiple procedures with interrelated processes or steps. Work involves choosing the appropriate option or procedure to follow and applying established rules and procedures.
Regardless of who does the repair or replacement, the tech is responsible for assuring that the work performed is complete and meets Furman University Standards.
Reports To : Mechanical Shop Supervisor
Work is performed both independently and in a group, depending upon the type of work, non-routine issues or questions are referred to the HVAC Supervisor.
Education / Skill Requirements :
Computer skills including : operating PC / lap top computers to access DDC / BAS systems, ability to go online to Access DDC / BAS system and to research sites for replacement and ordering of parts.
Willing to continue training via classes and schools to keep pace with changing technologies.
Ability to read and interpret diagrams, drawings, control schematics, and operating manuals of equipment.
EPA Technician Certification Card
High School graduate with 10 minimum combined years of commercial HVAC / BAS experience and technical training in the HVAC field preferred.
Work Conditions :
Work schedule is Monday - Friday, 40 hour work week, 7-3 : 30 or 8-4 : 30 to meet the
needs of the students, Faculty and Staff.
Work is performed in outside, in attics, buildings, equipment rooms and roofs with continuous exposure to heat, cold, dampness and noise.
Work requires
This position is subject to scheduled and non-scheduled overtime during non-business hours, holidays, campus power shut-downs and other conditions that may arise, requiring HVAC Techs to respond.
This position also requires a personal cell phone and responding to emergency callbacks.
