The Role

The selected candidate will be joining the North America E2E Supply Chain Performance organisation at a critical and exciting time in the Optimisation phase of its Journey to Excellence.

This will be a new role in the organization that will have a key focus on balancing base oil supply across all plants in North America vs.

the cost of inventory / capacity constraints at various plants.

The Base Oil Demand Coordinator will be the key interface between the North America Base Oil Supply Team, Materials Schedulers (located in the SBO) and suppliers of base oils across the globe.

Job Purpose : The purpose of the Base Oil Demand Coordinator is to ensure accurate forward communication of the regional base oil demand and to manage through any constraints with the local planning teams (production schedulers), as well as to monitor and drive base oil supplier performance of both internal and external base oil suppliers.

This role will also act as the Regional Lead Super User for Hydrocarbon Management (Base oils) and as such supports the material schedulers and the production sites in the region where it concerns materials planning and inbound receipt of Base Oils (first level process support for end-users in LOBP).

The expectation is that the Base Oil Demand Coordinator will interface with members of the Base Oil Team, materials schedulers in the SBO, regional contract holders as well as project teams during base oil sourcing transformation and reformulation initiatives.

Being the lead super user for HM processes, there also is a close working relationship with global process experts and the successful candidate will be expected to attend global super user calls and report back key takeaways to the broader E2E LSC Performance team.

Accountabilities : The main accountabilities include :

  • Provide medium-term demand consolidation and regular communication of forecast to the base oil supply and PAO teams
  • Support the annual BO nomination process.
  • Be trained in the role of material scheduling via DDMRP planning tools (for base oil) to stay close to operational and transactional issues / potentially be short term backfill
  • Support the material schedulers in coordinating BO Portfolio Change Management
  • Support in short-term resolution of base oil supply issues and STEM management + coordinate effective remedial actions with relevant functional teams
  • Develop into a subject matter expert on base oil supply in North America and train others on the E2E LSC Performance Team as needed
  • Act as regional Lead Super User : Support material schedulers and LOBPs in the region where it concerns materials planning and inbound receipt of Base Oils
  • Deliver regional Base Oil inventory targets on inventory held across the North American network
  • Will be the main interface between the Base Oil Supply and Planning teams
  • Obtain feedback on base oil supply capacity vs the LSC plan, feedback into the local Planning Processes (Step 3)
  • Ensure local price elements in the regional base oil PIRs are updated
  • Work with the PIMs to maintain a regional inventory of reformulations including impact on additive and base oil forecast
  • Dimensions : Business dimensions will focus on :

  • The supply planner will report directly to the E2E Supply Manager (Houston based), so will need to be able to work well virtually
  • Will need to have a strong customer focus to ensure that Base Oil is available to meet customer centric targets such as OTIF
  • Regular engagements with the production scheduling team, materials scheduling team and base oil teams for addressing issues and continuous improvement opportunities
  • Interaction with other Lubricants Supply Chain teams to coordinate and deliver value saving opportunities
  • Focus on the trade-offs between working capital, capacity at the plants and product availability to drive best complete business decisions for Shell
  • Special Challenges : Over the past few years, LSC has successfully turned around the operational delivery performance by addressing the fundamentals of internal base oils sourcing management.

    The challenge now is to build on this much improved internal partnership foundation in order to become a competitive advantage for Global Commercial and drive value in partnership with sales.

    To achieve this, the successful candidate will require a strong business acumen and keen interest not only in developments in supply chain but also in the Lubricants business.

    The successful candidate will also need to show :

  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders in a virtual environment. Strong ability to deliver through others without having a direct reporting line.
  • Strong analytical abilities to develop a high-quality forward look on regional base oil demand, understand root causes of base oil demand variances, base oil impact of future formulation changes.
  • Deep subject matter knowledge of GSAP processes and transactions to act effectively as the Lead Superuser for the region.
  • The role offers a great opportunity to make a very positive impact to the bottom line of Shell Lubricants by challenging the status quo and driving continuous improvement both in the role itself as well as in the lubricants business at large.
