About the opportunity
The primary functions of this role are to lead the development of mechanical design. Primarily, this will involve design piping systems for steam conveyance at low and medium pressures, to design steam separation plant and to design low pressure brine handling / reinjection plant and piping systems.
May also involved in the development of mechanical design on projects other than power plants.
Key responsibilities within these functions are to; effectively manage the overall mechanical design process for a project, control quality assurance and ensure deliverables meet all applicable external and internal standards, critically review stress analysis work and layout design performed by others, lead more junior staff to develop their skills and to assist more senior staff in the ongoing development and implementation of standards.
Promote Jacobs with peers in the industry
Cultivate relationships with other consultants in the sectors in which Jacobs are active
Contribute to technical papers and the like to promote Jacobs at industry events
Lead and develop a base of mechanical design skills within Mechanical Team.
Support strong service delivery to all clients
Maintain the professional image of Jacobs at all times
Through a strong client focus, identify and develop relationships with project specific client staff.
Assist with monitoring of project costs
Be aware of project scope of works
Be aware of project budget and programme
Effective management of budgets on projects which this person leads (as a Project Manager) or is part of a team where responsibility for the budget as assigned to this person for a package of work is delegated.
Provide input into developing budgets for projects during tender stage
Delivery of quality outputs to clients
Undertake Project Manager / Technical Lead roles.
Support the Practice Leader in developing and enhancing capabilities and broadening areas of business
Effectively interact with the wider team in terms of technical skills, resource sharing and sharing of work packages through Virtual Team working.
Identify, contribute to and lead proposals.
Help grow our work pipeline.
Collaborates with Team Leaders, Section Managers, Operation Centre Managers and relevant Relationship Client Managers
Support Project Managers / Projects Directors managing operational risk, including project delivery, HSEC, quality and service
Relevant Engineering degree as a minimum.
Have a through working knowledge on electrical protection theory and fundamentals.
Experience in applicable market is preferred.
Knowledge of Jacobs systems, policies and procedures.
Possess strong planning and administrative skills with excellent interpersonal skills
Highly developed analytical skills
Extensive experience in conceptual, detailed design and construction phases
Well developed employee management and mentoring skills
Good written and spoken English
Strong technical skills in the mechanical discipline and accepted as a senior practitioner in mechanical engineering
