The Research and Development Specialist is responsible for the conceptualization of products to its realization. It generally requires the qualified individual to conduct researchers on various aspects in the food industry.
More importantly, the R&D Specialist is tasked to develop and introduce new products that confirm to the customers’ specifications / requirements in compliance to statutory and regulatory requirements on safety and quality, and in accordance with the company’s standards, goals and vision.
The position also involves carrying out of researches to improve current products.
I.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop new products for submission to various clients within 20 working days and within target selling price.
Duplicate / match benchmark samples or competitor’s within 25 working days and within target selling price.
Submit sample requests for improvement within 5 working days and within target selling price.
Prepare Cost Estimate Sheets of all submitted products for Marketing’s guide in price quotation two (2) days before the committed date.
Keep accurate and thorough records of all studies on assigned projects, using ISO formats and information systems available (CES / PRF / Archive / Software Systems), 90% of the time.
Prepare specifications and other related documents of all raw materials, packaging materials and finished products for Quality Control Dept’s guide in acceptance of rejection.
Prepare process instructions and other related documents of all newly approved blended products for Operation’s guide in production.
Coordinate with operations group critical aspects of the production process of new / improved products before, during and after initial production run.
Conduct shelf-life studies and prepare accurate and concise reports on the studies conducted.
Discuss with the Technical Manager or R&D Manager significant work results / problems as soon as necessary.
B.Evaluation of new raw and packaging materials
Identify new RM / PM requirements and request samples for evaluation. Be able to organize and manage the evaluation of samples specifically on important flavor top notes.
Conduct research on the various functional ingredients as assigned by the R&D Manager.
Assess RM’s and packaging materials for new product development, cost reduction, and product improvement on projects.
Prepare specifications and other related documents of all raw materials & packaging materials for Quality Control Dept’s guide in acceptance or rejection.
Coordinate with PMG and Purchasing Dept on the procurement / requirement of new raw materials.
C.Provide Technical Support to Sales
Prepare application / proportion recipes using BSFIL product lines.
Develop new product concepts and present to PMG / Sales for promotion.
D.Widen knowledge and improve on assigned area of expertise
Keep abreast of scientific / technical development particularly in his area of proposed specialization such as dehydration principles, packaging technology, food colors, spices, sauces, noodle and pork / beef / chicken meat application, beverage, bakery and dairy application.
Review and endorse formulations of other R&D Specialists that are related to the assigned areas of expertise (experts and sub-experts).
Review and approve formulations in the absence of the R&D Manager.
V. JOB REQUIREMENTS (MINIMUM)
Bachelor’s Degree in Food Technology, Nutrition, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
Minimum of one (1) year working experience in Product Development preferred but not required.
Minimum of six (6) months exposure to any Food Industry preferred but not required.
