Job Description

The Managed Security Services Security Information and Event Management Administrator (SIEM Administrator) are individual contributors responsible for providing IT security services to clients within the IBM Security Services Managed Security Services organization.

The SIEM Administrator is an individual contributor to work within IBM Managed Security Services Global SOC to support the Managed Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) services.

The SIEM Administrator creates, modifies, and tunes the SIEM rules to adjust the specification of alerts and incidents.

The SIEM Administrator will work with the customers designated personnel to provide continual correlation rule tuning, incident classification and prioritization recommendations, report query adjustments, and various other configuration activities in order to help customers fully optimize the SIEM system capabilities as well as the audit and logging features of the event log sources.

The SIEM Admin works closely with the assigned Managed Services SIEM resources to ensure client's customized solution is functioning optimally and is continuously tined to the client's needs.

Candidate must have an enhanced professional. operational, and inter-personal skills to function effectively in collaborative high stakes and high stress situations with clients.

The candidate must be able to prepare and provide training on complex administration of a SIEM system within a large MSSP environment.

Candidate must be able to develop, follow, and integrate processes which scale to multiple customer environments. A SIEM Administrator should have an excellent problem solving and will need to have basic knowledge of TCP / IP and OSI layers, network routing & switching protocols, and experience in one or more best of breed Firewall / UTM, IPS / IDS, SIEM, Proxy and Advanced Threat Prevention platforms / security products from various vendors such as Check Point, Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, Blue Coat, Websense, IBM QRadar, and HP Arcsight.

Working familiarity with Unix, Linux, Windows OS and scripting language to automate tasks is a plus.

This role will also require an excellent written and oral communication skills, good attention to details, strong organization skills, should be available to travel and work on weekend shift if required.

Job Roles & Tasks :

  • Create, modify, and tune the SOEM rules to adjust the specifications of alerts and incidents.
  • Work with the customer designated personnel to provide continual correlation rule tuning, incident classification and prioritization recommendations.
  • Report query adjustments, and various other SIEM configuration activities.
  • Assist customers to fully optimize the SIEM system capabilities as well as the audit and logging features of the event log source.
  • Work closely with the assigned Managed Services SIEM resources to ensure client's customized solution is functioning optimally and continuously tuned to the client's needs.
  • Interface with a variety of customers in a polite, positive and professional manner.
  • Work under pressure on multiple issues & projects with tight schedules.
  • Resolve problems related to Network, Device Policy, connectivity issues etc.
  • Qualifications & Experience :

  • Professional Certifications like CISSP, CISA, CISM, CEH, GCIA, RHCE, and CCNA
  • 1 year experience in general Information Security practices
  • 2 years of experience in TCP / IP networking and routing fundamentals
  • 1 year experience in Unix / Linux system administration
  • 1 year experience in Firewall / security gateway administration
  • 1 year experience in network troubleshooting
  • 1 year experience in Intrusion Detection / Prevention
  • Additional knowledge and understanding of one or more of the following concepts and technologies is a plus : SIEM, Proxies, Content Filtering, Vulnerability Scanning, Email and Web Security.
  • Preferred :

  • At least 2 years of experience in TCP / IP Networks
  • At least 2 years of experience in Intrusion Detection / Prevention
  • At least 3 years of experience in Operation System Skills
  • At least 2 years of experience with Unix / Linux system administration level knowledge
  • At least 2 years of experience in SIEM Administration
  • Required Technical and Professional Expertise
