Position Title : Research Project Assistant

Duty Station : IOM Philippines Country Office (Manila)

Classification : General Service Staff , Grade G5

Type of Appointment : Fixed term, one year with possibility of extension

Context :

Under the overall supervision of the Programme Manager and the direct supervision of the National Private Sector Engagement Officer, the successful will be responsible for supporting the private sector unit in the implementation of projects in the Philippines, which includes activities related to business and human rights, due diligence, private sector engagement and labour migration.

Core Functions / Responsibilities :

Perform desktop research in the area of business and human rights, international standards, laws and practices on responsible recruitment, country specific recruitment practices, due diligence, Modern Slavery and remediation.

Collect and interpret data of potential and adverse risk related to recruitment in addition to country level risk analysis.

Develop guidance notes, summary items and documentation on items as directed by the National Officer.

In coordination with the National Officer, contribute to the development of IOM responsible recruitment due diligence toolkit for employers and recruitment agencies.

This includes but is not limited to providing input and drafting of tools and guidelines based on IOM and international standards.

Assist in preparing training course materials that are substantive, engaging, and motivating in the area of corporate responsibility and responsible recruitment due diligence.

This includes the preparation of power points, workshop activities, facilitators guidelines and workshop activities.

Support the delivery and roll out of training on business and human rights and due diligence to the private sector, internal stakeholders and Government counterparts.

Support the development of systems and other functional specifications for excel.

Provide technical and backstopping support to monitoring and evaluation activities.

Draft and provide input into project reports for the donor.

Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Completed university degree in Humanitarian Affairs, International Studies, Political Science, Law, Human Rights, Development Studies or a related filed from an accredited academic institution preferred with at least three years of relevant work experience.
  • High school degree in the above fields with five years relevant professional experience.
  • Experience

  • With 3-5 years of experience in conducting qualitative and quantitative research, preferably on business and human rights.
  • At least 2 years of experience in supporting sustainability-related projects, from planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Knowledge in labor and human rights risks, including migrants’ rights and counter-trafficking.
  • Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, other national / international institutions and NGOs, as well as in the region.
  • Skills

  • Excellent computer skills, especially in Word & Excel;
  • Good financial management skills.
  • Languages

    English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of a second official UN language is desirable.

    Only candidates residing in either the country of the duty station or from a location in a neighbouring country that is within commuting distance of the duty station will be considered.

    In all cases, a prerequisite for taking up the position is legal residency in the country of the duty station, or in the neighbouring country located within commuting distance, and work permit, as applicable.

    The position involves onsite and / or offsite work (or a combination of both). The working modality will be further discussed during the interviews if candidate is available to work on-site and / or offsite.
