Job Description

Role and Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Finance Control Operations Director in MBPS, the role is primarily accountable for the managing the Regional Office accounting, financial and management reporting, expense management, budgeting and forecasting through timely and accurate service delivery.

Responsibilities include the following :

Management and Regulatory Reporting

  • Ensure to provide timely, accurate and insightful review of management and regulatory reports to facilitate business decisions and to drive expense accountability for the Regional Office and the assigned Asia functions.
  • This requires working with regional functional teams and local teams to ensure accuracy of the key performance indicators for each Asia Business Unit for decision-making purposes.

  • Partner with the key stakeholders, to identify the reporting trend and patterns, highlight areas that needs management attention to align with and achieve the Regional Office and Asia Division strategic goals.
  • Provide monthly management reports and analyses to the functional heads in Regional Office and address any queries.

  • Lead and in charge of all intercompany charges and communication with BUs to ensure proper elimination on Group level.
  • Manage Group regulatory and management reporting deliverables for Asia to ensure accurate and timely information is provided to Corporate Division.
  • Work with Corporate team to develop, implement, maintain and operationalize reporting standards to ensure that an expense-conscious culture is embedded within Manulife Asia.
  • Work with the business unit finance teams to ensure that this is mirrored at the business unit level.

  • Participate in projects as assigned or other ad hoc activities.
  • Operational Support

  • Manage the teams’ day to day operations promoting efficiency and team effectiveness
  • Effective capacity management by allocating and delegating tasks to team members and manage the task monitoring system used for regular business review reporting
  • Ensure the delivery of excellent customer service by proactively promoting client centricity
  • Ensure that the team is regularly updated and are provided proper training to relevant accounting and regulatory policies or changes therewith
  • Act as the project manager who will oversee the planning, implementation and tracking of any short-term or streamlining and automation projects
  • Take the lead role in resolving critical issues raised during operations and proactively manage and monitor control efficacy to ensure potential risk is minimized
  • Support ad-hoc analysis to identify root cause of production problems and develop timely solutions
  • Effectively communicate significant production updates and challenges to management as well as to the business unit in a timely manner
  • Independently recommends process improvements and / or operational reviews for management consideration
  • Process Migration and Operational Excellence & Efficiency

  • Lead the process migration by partnering with MBPS Transitions Group in identifying opportunities to transition new work and ensuring that knowledge transfers, parallel runs and process documentation meets the MBPS standards.
  • Responsible for and take the lead role in identifying opportunities for process efficiencies through process reviews and automation.
  • Efficiently coordinate and partner with developers and project teams to effectively deliver on process automations and initiatives.
  • Leadership / Management

  • Drive the team in achieving its organizational goals and objectives.
  • Consult with MBPS Finance management on business planning, direction, and identification of opportunities for team growth and development
  • Perform the People Manager role for the performance management, professional growth and development of staff which includes feedback sessions, productivity tracking, coaching, one to one meetings and regular employee reviews.
  • Lead the regular business reviews and produce dashboard and metrics reports detailing the team’s performance (productivity, utilization, and attendance), challenges and areas for improvement.
  • Ensure that all Service Level Agreements and MBPS and Business Unit compliance standards are met at all times
  • Partner with the Business Unit stakeholders through regular discussions and to ensure that the team’s activities and priorities are aligned with the Business Unit objectives.
  • Special Projects

    Special projects will arise from time to time that will require strong financial knowledge, strong analytical and organizational skills with an innovative mindset.

    The role will be responsible ad-hoc projects as required by senior management pertaining to the introduction of new services, products and processes designed.

    Qualifications

  • University Business Degree and / or recognized accounting or finance designation (Chartered Accountant or CPA);
  • 7+ years of progressive financial reporting and management experience; Life insurance industry experience is preferred
  • Experience working with senior management teams (Strong stakeholder management requiring persuasion / influencing skills);
  • relationship building and negotiation skills

  • Prior experience of managing shared services / offshore team is an advantage
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and strong stakeholder management capabilities
  • Strong technical accounting skills with a solid understanding of the business environment
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with database applications
  • Strong project management skills
  • Self-starter, detail-oriented, willingness to take ownership and accountability
  • Able to cope in a fast paced and dynamic work environment, with the mindset of continuous improvement and aiming for excellence
  • Strong oral / written communication skills required to interact with senior officers and representatives from other Divisions and functional departments
