Description The Hardware Engineer will support and execute sustaining engineering projects for SYSS products, ensuringproduct specifications can be maintained throughout the product lifecycle.
This role will work with hardware designers and engineers throughout the full product development life-cycle, supporting PCB outline, component placement and routing.
The Hardware Engineer reviews and evaluates designs and project activities for compliance with system design and development guidelines / standards, providing tangible feedback to improve product quality and mitigate failure risk.
Collaborate with design authority, supply chain, manufacturing engineering, component vendors and suppliers, and quality engineers to maintain and improve existing products and to ensure regulatory and product performance requirements are met
Identify and evaluate alternative components for cost reduction, end-of-life substitution and performance improvement
Review and validate design and life cycle component changes for impact on function
Responsible for prototyping and testing of change proposals
Present design proposals to design authority and participate in design reviews
Monitor and understand implications to agency certifications
Bachelor of Science Electrical / Electronics Engineering
Minimum 4 years of related work experience in Components Engineering or Hardware Engineering, including :
Hardware Printed Circuit Boards including Analog & Digital Circuit Design
Embedded Microprocessor & FPGA Design
Understanding of high speed digital communications technologies, analog to digital conversion and low noise signal conditioning, and on-
board power supply design (voltage conversion)
Experience with high frequency design (i.e. radio circuits, EMC)a plus
Ability to effectively communicate product architectures, design proposals and negotiate options to design authority
Familiarity with PCB design and layout; component placement and signal routing
Ability to work with electrical design tools and software packages
Printed Circuit Board Layout Experience with Mentor Graphics PADs & Mentor Graphics Powerlogic Schematic Capture desired (PWS)
Mentor Graphics Board Station & Mentor Graphics Expedition desired (PSS)
PC Board CAD experience with Cadence and / or Altium desired (RS)
SolidWorks, Orcad for schematic capture, and PADs layout for PCB design desired (RAS)
Must be eligible for visas and willing to travel to product design locations for extended periods (weeks) for training in current products
Demonstrated strong communication skills with ability to relay technical information in English (verbal, written, and interpersonal)
Analytical ability to determine and develop solutions to moderately complex problems
Flexibility to respond to urgent project requests and / or changing priorities
Experience of working (either by telephone, e-mail or directly) with people in multiple countries and cultures, exchanging information
