Penn State College of Medicine seeks a creative anatomist educator, to be based at the medical school’s central campus in Hershey, as its Associate Anatomy Director of the Program on Education in Human Structure.

The associate director, and the program director, are together responsible for continued development of an innovative clinical anatomy curriculum for the College of Medicine’s medical and physician assistant (PA) students, collaboratively designed and taught with a radiology co-director.

The college has two curriculum tracks a central track in Hershey and a parallel track in University Park. The core longitudinal curriculum is organized around modules embedded within the applicable organ system courses.

Each module sets high expectations for student-centered, peer-learning. The associate anatomy director works closely with all course directors for both the MD and PA programs to ensure and facilitate appropriate integration.

In addition, the associate anatomy director works with the Physician Assistant program in the design and implementation of its longitudinal anatomy curriculum.

Graduate students from Penn State’s outstanding graduate program in human anatomy help facilitate dissection sessions and large group framing talks.

Further responsibilities include collaboration with the physical diagnosis course, humanities courses and in the third year, the integrated science sessions that have been designed to spiral basic science learning in the clerkship setting.

Within the fourth year, interdisciplinary musculoskeletal and neuroscience anatomy electives are well established along with opportunities for the design of additional interdisciplinary anatomy electives.

The associate anatomy director will share in the continued development and implementation of an ultrasound curriculum component, integrated into the anatomy sessions.

This includes a series of preparatory workshops for students who then become peer teachers in collaboration with the teaching faculty.

The Associate Anatomy Director of the Program on Education in Human Structure also supports the Body Donation Program and the multi-disciplinary dissection laboratory, ensuring effective coordination of learning and teaching resources.

These roles also illustrate the important collaboration across both the medical and graduate teaching missions.
