Practice Area Profile
BCG’s Energy practice helps companies navigate an increasingly complex business climate. The practice covers the Oil & Gas and Power & Utilities sectors.
We also have deep knowledge in Energy transition and Sustainability, Energy Trading and Risk Management and Energy Engineering and Services.
Our projects typically apply BCG’s core consulting skills in functional areas such as, digitalization, strategy, organisation or performance improvement, but in the distinctive environment of Energy.
We also address projects that touch upon more operational or technical challenges, which we deliver through our expert consultants, occasionally partnering with external specialists.
We work with the senior leaders of leading international and national oil companies, service providers, utilities, regulators and financial institutions.
The Energy Practice has enjoyed rapid and sustained annual growth over several years, representing about 10% of BCG’s global business volume.

WHAT WE NEED :
The practice is currently looking for an individual at the Expert Consultant or Expert Project Leader level who has significant experience in refining reliability and maintenance activities.
A qualified individual will play a critical role in enriching firm expertise on this topic and in bringing this expertise to our clients.
Ideal candidates will have a refining background including roles as reliability / maintenance manager, turnaround / commissioning and / or process engineering.
Candidate must have 5-10 years’ experience working in refineries and / or petrochemical plants.

The Energy practice is a global business unit made up of over 300 Managing Directors & Partners, Partners & Directors, Partners & Associate Directors, Partners, Principals, Associate Directors and Project Leaders who are supported by a large group of Energy experienced and trained Consultants and Analysts, many of them with pre-BCG industry experience in leading energy companies, governments, and environmental organizations.
We work with the senior leaders of leading international and national oil companies, service providers, utilities, regulators and financial institutions, enabling them to meet the challenges of rising complexity and risk.
The practice area has enjoyed rapid and sustained annual growth over several years, coming to represent approximately 10% of BCG’s global business volume.
In this role, you’ll find high visibility and clear opportunity for rapid advancement as you collaborate with BCG team members from many backgrounds and disciplines in a team-oriented, relationship-driven environment.
Working alongside some of the world’s top minds on cases that reshape business, government and society, you will increase your understanding of complex business problems from diverse perspectives, and develop new skills.
Twice a year, you will travel to global practice area meetings where you will have the opportunity to present to senior BCG management.
At the same time, you’ll partner with senior clients, taking on the role of trusted advisor, and work at all levels of the client organization to find and execute value creation strategies that result in meaningful, enduring impact.
Roles & Responsibilities
An Expert occupies an important position executing and supporting client service engagements in a variety of roles. An Expert may be responsible for delivering a specific piece of work as an advisor, or an individual contributor or, depending on the individual's profile and skill set, they may be responsible for leading a team.
They may also play an advisory role on projects, helping either to establish BCG's credibility or ramp the team up at the start of a particular piece of work, or provide regular support and guidance throughout the project.
At the more senior levels individuals become increasingly involved in business development activities and increase the amount of time dedicated to development of their own and BCG's expertise.
WHAT YOU’LL DO :
As a consultant in our practice, you will use your knowledge and experience to manage large and complex components of our projects.
You’ll work closely with clients to understand their issues, create strategies for change, win buy-in for your recommendations, and collaborate with fellow BCGers to transform client potential into performance.
Project Leaders manage work on client engagements, direct studies to define client needs, supervise research activities, and participate in business development.
They oversee the formulation of hypotheses for research and investigation, as well as advanced analysis to identify opportunities.
They work closely with clients to solidity their competitive advantage and drive value on multiple levels : financial impact, organizational transformation, enhanced effectiveness and digitalization, improved supplier collaboration and optimized risk management.
Project Leadersare also responsible for continuously developing the firm’s knowledge and capabilities, and play a key role in the development and maintenance of high-level client relationships.
Projects vary based on client needs, but the importance of seeing possibilities where other people find limits will be a constant.
