The Compliance Engineer applies a wide range of specialized Engineering skills to obtain, maintain and document

regulatory / agency approvals and compliance certifications for our Emerson Products. Provides assessments and clarification

of codes and standards to project teams. Serves as a technical resource to Management for guaranteeing the availability and

continuance for sale of Emerson products globally though data analytics.


Duty 1 : Product and Material Compliance Analysis

  • Evaluates presence of monitored and restricted substances in components
  • Calculates concentration of substances in accordance to regulatory thresholds
  • Coordinates with Engineering and Supply Chain on affected components & suppliers
  • Extracts Bill Of Materials for products affected to assess compliance at product level
  • Determines applicable RoHS exemptions and exclusions in accordance to Annex III
  • Investigates applicable REACh exemptions in accordance to Annex XVII
  • Investigates applicability & scope of regulatory requirements to business products
  • Provides analysis needed by site contacts for the issuance of product certificates and assurance of material compliance to global regulatory and environmental directives and requirements.
  • Duty 2 : Agency Approvals Product Qualification

  • Handles site / region specific projects :
  • Material Compliance
  • supports the following directives : RoHS, REACh, CAProp 65, and other directives / material analysis as may be requested and as may be allowed by resources (include analysis)
  • Collects the necessary product data needed for the AAR according to the Quality Test Plan created by the Agency
  • Approval Engineer.
  • Maintains the technical file pertaining to the new productmfor certification.
  • Submits the product data collected and technical file to the
  • Agency Approvals Engineer.

  • Performs the following items as assigned by the Agency
  • Approvals Engineer in accordance to the Quality Test Plan created by the Sustaining Engineer :
  • o Collects the necessary product data

    o Maintains the technical file pertaining to product recertification

  • Updates product certificates and descriptive files
  • Duty 3 : Compliance Systems Management

  • Uploads declaration information and other supplier documents to environmental database
  • Uploads new parts for enrollment in compliance system
  • Modifies part attributes in compliance system
  • Maintains compliance documents are up-to-date in the system
  • Applies RoHS exemption for parts affected in the system
  • Updates and assures quality of the FLMC Material
  • Compliance Database’s contents
  • Duty 4 : Customer Compliance Communication

  • Prepares product compliance analysis report to Engineering & POC for review & approval
  • Prepares Certificate of compliance and coordinates with POC for signing
  • Coordinates with Legal on standard templates applicable to regulatory requirements
  • Monitors incoming customer requests thru portal registration
  • Assesses which products require communication obligations in accordance to REACH Article 33
  • Coordinates with POCs which customers associated to products affected by Article 33
  • Sends Certificate of compliance and other regulatory documents to Coordinates with Legal for any uncertainties on customer requirements
  • Answers TechSales inquiries pertaining to product compliance and certification
  • Duty 5 : Metrics, Reporting and Analytics

  • Gathers and extracts data from compliance system and trackers
  • Scrubs or cleans up compliance data based on pre-defined guidelines and instructions
  • Performs data validation to ensure data consistency and accuracy
  • Analyses data and reporting solutions to understand business impact, correlation and discrepancies
  • Collaborates with stakeholders for communication and presentation of reports
  • Provides regulatory and legislation updates to stakeholders
  • Duty 6 : Supplier & Part Qualification

  • Extracts supplier and part information from supply chain systems
  • Coordinates with business unit POCs which parts to be qualified or disqualified
  • Scrubs parts list in accordance to directive qualification criteria
  • Prepares loading templates for enrolling and updating parts in the environmental database
  • Coordinates with PMC on enrollment of parts in iPCA
  • Updates part attributes in the system for any changes
  • Duty 7 : Internal Data Mining

  • Collects material declarations from 3rd party systems and databases.
  • Interprets engineering drawings to check materials used and dimensions
  • Calculates substance composition of material grades in accordance to industry standard
  • Assesses coating and plating used in mechanical and electrical parts
  • Duty 8 : Material Data Validation

  • Checks completeness of material declarations in accordance to compliance requirements
  • Validates accuracy of Chemical Abstract Numbers (CAS) declared per substance
  • Calculates weight declarations to verify discrepancies in homogenous weights versus substance weights
  • Verifies with supplier on substances with invalid or dummy CAS numbers
  • Reviews declaration statements, certificate of compliance and 3rd party certificates whether valid in accordance to requirements
  • Validates with engineering drawings and specs the accuracy of materials declared by supplier
  • Duty 9 : Continuous Improvement and Innovation

  • Leads and identifies opportunities for productivity / process improvement project to enhance work process
  • Leads / and or participates on projects related to quality improvement (such as Think Customer, QMS, etc.)
  • Identifies problem areas and sources, offers possible solutions and escalates to line leaders / seniors when necessary.
  • Execute agreed solutions as approved by line leaders / seniors

  • Duty 10 : Documented Information Management

  • Establishes process documentation for all assigned responsibilities and ensures completeness and accuracy
  • Improves established process documentation or work instructions to ensure accuracy of reports or expected output

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (ChE, ECE, etc.) along with practical mechanical and electrical skills
  • Job Related Experience :

  • Minimum 1 year relevant experience in Compliance Engineering
  • Specific Knowledge :

  • Knowledge of materials and chemical substances
  • Ability to interpret drawings and technical specifications
  • Working knowledge of environmental legislations and similar ex, ROHS, REACH etc.
  • Ability to calculate substance content / concentration
  • Knowledge of PLM systems and compliance databases
  • Ability to analyze and grade product BOMs
  • Ability to evaluate and approve or reject material declaration
  • Skills :

  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel proficiency (Level 2)
  • Proficient in other Microsoft office programs : Power Point, Word, Outlook
  • Must have strong analytical, problem solving and computing skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in a technical environment
