Job Description :
The Technical Specialist works under the general direction of the Network Services Manager and has primary responsibility for the network technology domains in terms of strategy, design, engineering and 3rd level support for PH campus and field network as well as the global WAN resources of Sun Life Financial.
This position works with Network Engineering team to ensure engineered solutions align with approved roadmaps, architectural standards and business strategy.
As well, this position has strong interaction with the Network Operations teams to ensure solutions are effectively developed, implemented and transitioned, ready for production consumption, with all support components in place
This position participates in a 7x24x365 operational organization, providing 3rd level support for Incident Management and service restoration activities, ensuring comprehensive availability of network services for our business
The candidate should have a focused strength in Wireless technologies including management tools and authentication aspects, LAN and WAN infrastructure technologies and services, and maintains expert knowledge and skills within the wired and wireless access disciplines.
The position’s accountability also spans a variety of network platforms, tools and vendors, as well as a variety of domestic and international telecommunications providers.
Among the many duties and responsibilities required of the Technical Specialist are :
Develop, maintain, implement and communicate Wireless and access Domain roadmaps, including initiative planning and business case development for the underlying component initiatives
Engineer effective and supportable network solutions that meet architectural standards, security policies, regulatory requirements and business demands for maximum availability using managed prototyping, proof of concept and structured pilot techniques
Assess the Wireless and access domain landscape for compatibility and integration of technologies and capabilities within the Sun Life environment
Review, audit, assess and qualify supplier / manufacturer technology and service roadmaps
Collaborate with Enterprise Network Architecture and Information Security to develop, plan, maintain and test enterprise network strategies
Plan, implement, and smoothly transition accepted technology solutions to engineering operations including documentation, service shadowing / training, and operational procedure development
Develop capacity planning and availability management practices for network services
Promote and fully participate in key IT processes of Incident, Problem, Change, Configuration, Capacity and Service Level Management
Rotational 24x7x365 on-call to ensure comprehensive availability of network services for our business
Engage with our infrastructure and applications architecture teams to develop network and security compliant joint solution strategies
Provide consultation and comprehensive support to our internal and external customers and our business stakeholders

Comprehensive knowledge of Cisco and Aruba Wireless technologies, including controllers, access points, ClearPass, Riverbed, DNS services
Technologies and configuration pattern knowledge :
Demonstrated knowledge of OSI, MPLS, OSPF, SIP, 802.1x
Zoom, ScienceLogic, SolarWinds, Ciscoworks, OpNet, Packet Analysers
Minimum 8 years of experience working with a team of network engineers who support large campus LAN and multinational WAN solutions
Strength in planning and technology roadmap development
Experience in wireless and wired technologies and able to apply resilient design principles including routing, traffic shaping and optimization
Operational skills in fault isolation and remediation, capacity management and reporting
Experience developing and maintaining comprehensive network documentation
Superior written and verbal communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with other teams, remaining professional, positive and patient at all times
Prepares and presents service level updates and status reports on Projects, Network Statistics, Budgets, etc.
Ability to effectively communicate abstract technical concepts in business terms across all levels of the organization
Vendor & Customer Management :
Engages with vendors to manage product roadmap / strategies and overall lifecycle impact to SLFs technology architecture, service strategy and business plan(s)
Works with vendor engineering support for new / modified technology, prototypes / pilots / initial implementations & deployments
