US Payroll Tax Accounting

  • Assist auditors for the purpose of providing supporting documentation and / or information on internal process that is required for audit
  • Maintain internal controls for the purpose of ensuring all payroll taxes and expenses are recorded accurately
  • Ensuring compliance with established accounting practices and all applicable regulatory requirements
  • Compiles statistical and payroll data if requested from a variety of sources (e.g. time sheets / payroll, salary adjustments, benefits, leave balances, tax deposits, etc to other personnel and / or ensuring compliance with established guidelines
  • Monitors assigned payroll activities and / or program components (e.g. County, State, for the purpose of ensuring compliance with administrative requirements
  • Suggest / provide recommendations of improvements or enhancemnts to leadership
  • Reconciles payroll account balances and complying with established guidelines
  • Researches discrepancies of payroll information and / or documentation requested by the accounting team or any other business partner Ensure vendor invoices and check requests are paid in accordance with authorization and approval policies and follow up on invoices not approved
  • Review and reconcile journal entries, transactions, and financial activities, monitor and review accounting documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with Federal and state regulations, funding agency standards, and county policies and control practices Assure journal entry information is complete and accurate and verify accuracy of supporting documentation
  • Identify and reconcile any financial discrepancies Overall recording and analyzing of various accounts, as stated above, to ensure integrity and accuracy of entries into accounts In-depth knowledge of applicable tax laws
  • Experience in preparing payroll and tax reports, as well as answering payroll accounting inquiries
  • Ability to plan and execute special projects to successful / desired results within the stated time frame as assigned by Manager

  • An associate's or bachelor's degree in accounting
  • Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) will be advantageous
  • Three (3) years of professional accounting experience
  • Proficiency in Oracle Cloud Payroll Software
  • Proficiency with Excel and Oracle is strongly preferred

  • Possess a responsible, detail-oriented, results-driven work ethic
  • Must be capable of multitasking while maintaining a professional and friendly demeanor
  • Must have the ability to exercise judgement and provide timely solutions to problems
  • Must be able to meet critical deadlines, prioritize, and manage time effectively

  • Excellent problem solving and tax analysis skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, multi-task environment
  • Strong analytical skills and technical accounting knowledge
  • Excellent interpersonal / listening skills and time management skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work independently
  • Proficiency with Excel and Oracle is strongly preferred
