This role will be responsible for maintaining a control framework and process around the monitoring and centralization of data integrity within the portfolio of Trading & Supply systems.

This is to ensure the accuracy in reporting of credit data in a controlled manner through continuously developing and implementing solutions, monitoring system reconciliations while enforcing standardized trading system updates.

This role covers all of business lines with which Shell Trading & Supply is involved in e.g. Crude & Products, Gas & Power, LNG etc.

It therefore offers real variety and an opportunity to impact commercial outcomes.


Act as a regular interface with the Global Trading Credit Systems, Analytics, Reporting and Policies team, and the Global Trading Credit Underwriting and Operations team.

This person will be responsible for running and maintaining monitoring tools.

Tasks will include but is not limited to :

  • Provide technical support and troubleshoot T&S Credit tools for any issues and or debugging requirements to T&S COC teams (GDM, Collateral Management tools, etc).
  • This includes liaising with IT App support or Systems, Analytics, Reporting and Policies team (SARP) if needed

  • Improve underwriting portfolio management system i.e. real time reporting of status of reviews and pending tasks, enable proactive monitoring of expiring reviews, automated assignment of CP’s to underwriters, etc
  • Support in delivery of improvement solutions within T&S COC processes through application of ESSA and available technical toolkits.
  • This includes working with teams in CI and Robotics to scope and define automation opportunities and where possible develop in-

    house automation scripts using Automate and other robotics software. Identify & implement improvements to Collateral Management systems

  • Be responsible and drive automation opportunities in T&S COC.
  • Be the focal point for T&S COC to implement and champion the SARP agenda of an optimized end-to-end platform optimized ETL, middle ware and visualization outputs.
  • Provide support, development of visualization tools such as Power BI, Qlikview, Tableau or Spotfire.
  • Continuously review and improve data controls and monitoring tools and rationalize effectiveness to keep the systems up to a baseline standard.
  • This also includes ensuring that documentation is up to date

  • Work with Global Underwriting Operations and SARP team for any enhancement and improvements to ensure sustained end-to-end data management
  • Provide technical support and troubleshoot identified tools for any issues and or debugging requirements which may involve coordination with IT / SARP support

    This coupled with a generally Credit adverse macro environment makes it increasingly important that we are able to dynamically assess ever changing risk variables within our portfolio of counterparties.

    Effective and efficient business intelligence and data analytics is crucial within a high pace trading environment, where information is a true asset.

    Transactions being entered into are also of increasing number, complexity and tenor. The recent past has seen a strong rise in the number of derivative transactions.

    Furthermore, asset based trading strategies are also growing strongly, employing more working capital and introducing increased levels of risk and resource consumption.

    All of these variables signify the importance of having strong data integrity processes to ensure we are making sound business decisions.

  • Willingness to learn or currently have ability to navigate through various end use trading systems
  • Give enthusiastic and vocal support to the Global Trading Credit organisational changes, the benefits of which will in many cases be felt in the longer term, while continuing to meet the ongoing needs to the global Trading and Supply businesses in the immediate term.
  • Work effectively with Global Underwriting and Operations and Global Systems, Analytics, Reporting and Policies to identify root causes, solve complex problems and demonstrate end to end knowledge.
  • Experiences & Qualifications

  • With technical understanding of below is beneficial.
  • a. SQL Database (development, maintenance, queries, optimization)

  • Advance MS Excel (data connections, macros for automation and scripting, styles)
  • Scripting tools and or OOP (automation scripting, process scripting)
  • Data visualization development (Qlikview, Spotfire, Tableau, etc)
  • Clear attention to detail and passion for continued learning is essential so as to support the Credit Assessment process and provide critical analysis on the Shell Trading & Supply customers.
  • Remain open to different perspectives (i.e. from other businesses & locations) and be able to switch priorities at short notice.
  • The ability to work under pressure, working to tight deadlines and juggling a number of different items at once.
