JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS :

Introduction

The Pennsylvania State University will hire and train a team of staff working remotely to perform COVID-19 contact tracing in communities across Pennsylvania.

The aim of this initiative is to call people diagnosed with COVID-19, establish the contacts of each person, and call and maintain ongoing communication with contacts.

Position Summary

The person in this position will be responsible for training a contact tracing team to support Penn State’s COVID-19 response using a trauma-informed, culturally respectful approach that builds trust and facilitates the sharing of information.

Case Investigators and Contact Tracers will conduct phone interviews with people diagnosed with COVID-19, elicit and reach out to their contacts, providing recommendations around isolation and quarantine, assessing needs for services to support isolation and quarantine including medical care, referring for testing as needed, and monitoring cases and contacts during quarantine and isolation.

Contact Tracing Trainers will be responsible for training team leads, community health workers, case investigators, and contact tracers in general and program-specific contact tracing protocols.

They will be also be responsible for periodic consulation, oversight, and quality control procedures.

Position Responsibilities

Position responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following examples of work-related tasks.

Train 10-20 part-time Case Investigators and Contact Tracers engaged in case interviews, contact tracing and linkage to services

Train two contact tracing team leads

Train two community health workers

Be available for periodic consultation regarding protocol changes, training needs

Be available for periodic quality control and training follow-up

Protect and maintain individuals’ privacy and confidentiality

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree is required. Experience in clinical medicine and / or public health is preferred

Experience in contact tracing is required.

Experience in a health, human service, or community-based organization, or institutional setting is strongly preferred

Experience working with different communication styles

Ability to be respectful, sensitive to and understanding of the diverse perspective of staff and work with them to resolve differences

Ability to supervise teams who may work remotely

Proficiency in navigating computer systems; ability to learn new data systems quickly and to comply with data integrity and security to safeguard all personal identifiable information

Own telephone, computer, wireless internet (WiFi)

Ability to demonstrate a professional, positive attitude and work ethic

Excellent interpersonal skills required and ability to interact professionally with people from diverse cultural, racial, ethnic, gender, and socioeconomic backgrounds during a time of crisis and distress

Excellent organizational skills

Critical thinking and sound judgment

Ability to speak, read, and write English

Proficiency in languages other than English a plus

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR).

The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters.
