Dyson offers a uniqueopportunity for talented individuals for a permanent Power Systems Product Engineer position in our PhilippinesAdvanced Manufacturing and RDD facility.
Being part of a small butgrowing team working on the Dyson Digital Motor in the Philippines, this rolecombines supporting the existing family of Dyson Digital Motors and associatedproducts with the analysis and validation of new motor projects in the run-
upto the start of production. This will involve characterisation, test andanalysis of motors, power electronic drives and control systems to help toensure that the final products meet their performance specification before andduring the active production lifecycle.
Basedin Dyson’s Philippines Advanced Manufacturing facility you will be joining theDyson Digital Motor Drives (DDMD) team within the Dyson Global Electronicsorganisation.
The DDMD team form part of the wider Motors and Power SystemsGroup and is a significant part of Dyson RDD with a growing team of more than100 highly skilled engineers, scientists and technicians in its UK, Singapore andPhilippines offices.
The Group focuses on researching and developingcutting-edge electric motors, drives and control systems for integration intoexisting and future Dyson products from concept design to fully automatedproduction.
Working closely with the Senior Power System ProductEngineer, you will follow existing Test Methods for system characterization andanalysis such as control system validation, thermal mapping and userinteraction of motors, power electronics and associated products as required.
Assist with bringing new power electronichardware to production through ownership of aspects such as alternate componentqualification, drawing up-
issue, release-process management and ISIR.
As directed, complete analysis of productiondata from motor, PCBA and product manufacturing facilities to identify drift,issues, non-
compliance and opportunities for process improvement and optimization both on an ongoing basis and where specific issues arise.
Be able to completeGR&R tests to validate correct functioning of equipment within givenspecification.
Working with the Dyson Operationsteams and your direct counterparts in our Singapore Advanced Manufacturingfacility you will work on trouble-
shooting of complex production end-of-linetest, tune and product calibration systems for existing motor, PCBA or productprojects.
Work closely with the test andvalidation teams in the UK to develop test methods and ensure the correctoperation of test equipment to ensure the accuracy and validity of testing.
Provide support to reliability andquality engineers with trial-build or field-return failure analysis, qualityand reliability improvements for launched products : completing root causeanalysis of any failures of the motor or associated drive and control system, reportingthe findings back to the Senior Power Systems Product Engineer or otherengineers or managers where applicable.
Assist other engineers within theteam with the creation and review of documents such as design schematics,design notes, FMEA, failure analysis reports, technical review documents andpart approval to ensure the lessons learned from manufacturing are captured.
Be free to travel when required toSingapore and local suppliers’ sites to complete or support validation andcomplete or support FRACAS investigation work.
Be able to apply your skills to other areas ofwork and tasks within the business as may be required of you on occasion forthe benefit of the wider team.
This could include, but is not limited to,supplier liaison for issue resolution or audit, engineering design work, testrig building and production equipment commissioning.
Theseare the essential skills we need you to have
A good first degree inelectrical / electronic engineering or equivalent qualification or demonstrableexperience of equivalent-
level working in production, test and validationenvironments.
Design knowledge and experience in arange of aspects of electronics including some of : power electronics, motorcontrol, analogue, digital and sensing technologies.
Working knowledge of schematiccapture, PCB layout and associated software.
Strong communication and teamworking skills to be able to form a bridge between multiple teams of differentdisciplines working on a single, integrated product across multiple globalsites.
Strong technical analysis skills andan ability to use standard laboratory equipment to set up experiments and totake precise measurements of motors, PCBAs and mains-
referenced control systemsto aid performance analysis, fault-finding and completion of GR&R testing.
Strong statistical analysis skillsto be able to gather data from multiple sources, including your own testing, tocalculate such things as trends, drifts and probabilities to identifyperformance against specification or to show where things are starting to gowrong.
Be flexible and open-minded torespond quickly to changes in project priorities. Be able to demonstrate soundtheoretical knowledge, reasoning and problem solving skills in engineering.
Be able to clearly report progress andresults in-person during meetings along with producing a high standard ofwritten documentation of your work.
Proactive and persistent naturedemonstrated by an inquisitive approach.
Be a creative thinker and problem solver;highly self-motivated and self-reliant with enthusiasm for motors, powersystems and Dyson products
Proficiency in spoken and written English ismandatory.
Experience with high-volumemanufacturing environments and on-line measurement of system performance.
Formal Six Sigma or Lean Six Sigmaqualification.
Proficient use of data analysistools such as Minitab.
Be proficient in the use of LabViewto be able to maintain existing and create new programs.
Have working knowledge of a range ofhardware development platforms including National Instruments, Arduino andRaspberry Pi.
Experience of managing a small teamof engineers.
Working knowledge of thefundamentals of electromagnetic machine operation particularly single andmulti-phase permanent magnet motors.
An appreciation of motor control techniques forlow and high speed, single-phase and multi-phase permanent magnet motors.
