Development Lead (Java)

To support the provision of Compliance operations to ensure that processes meet with business, regulatory and legal requirements and are fit for purpose
Contributes to the preparation and implementation of the compliance team plans to ensure these include operational considerations for delivery
Determine own work priorities and activities within context of agreed plans to ensure the achievement of the Compliance department’s objectives
Maintain knowledge of relevant FSA and local regulatory requirements (where applicable) and awareness of EU and local requirements and apply knowledge in all tasks
Monitor regulatory developments, promote team and management awareness by advising on regulatory changes (e.g. produce summaries of FSA / local regulator publications, draft content of compliance bulletin)
Maintain and monitor compliance timetable to ensure deadlines are met
Maintain compliance training system and monitor and ensure staff completion of relevant training
Assist and / or undertake regulatory processes and reporting as required e.g. branch applications, EU surplus lines reporting, FSA / local regulator approved person applications) and ensure accuracy and completeness and submission to regulator / s
Assist the development and / or improvement of policies and procedures and processes to ensure they continue to support the business In complying with regulatory requirements
Assist in the preparation of reports as required (e.g. annual money laundering and complaints report, related party reports, information for statutory board reports)
Build and maintain strong and effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure that service delivery meets the business expectations
Answer general queries to the compliance function to support the business
Assist in the update and development of compliance pages of intranet so that they are accurate and relevant for users
Regular communication with London compliance team to share best practice
Manage and analyze risk related information and produce standard and ad hoc reports to ensure all stakeholders receive relevant and timely information
Preparation of Board and Committee reports / packs to enable the Board to have up to date information as required
Participate in ad hoc projects / initiatives to contribute to the continuing development of compliance
Assess potential risks, report upon them and take action to reduce re-occurrence
Act as a point of reference to guide and advise others to ensure the sharing of knowledge and best practice
Supports others in the team where appropriate to assist in the achievement of their objectives

Experience in insurance industry involving compliance
Familiar with compliance processes and knowledge of FSA / local regulators’ requirements for insurers and insurance intermediation
