JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS :

POSTDOCTORAL SCHOLAR : SLEEP RESEARCH

The Sleep Research & Treatment Center (SRTC) in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at Penn State College of Medicine (Hershey, PA) seeks to hire a postdoctoral scholar for a 1-2 year position to work on the initial phase of a mild / moderate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and biomarkers project.

The successful candidate will :

  • Perform history and physical exams for research subjects
  • Conduct structured interviews in person or by phone
  • Review and extract data from clinical records
  • Draw blood samples
  • Assist in assaying the various molecules of stress and immune systems
  • Enter, analyze, and interpret data
  • Draft manuscripts / publications or research projects / grants
  • Present at national and international conferences
  • The successful candidate will work with Alexandros Vgontzas, MD, and other multi-disciplinary co-investigators on this OSA project as well as other related sleep research projects.

    Prior knowledge of principles of sleep medicine, sleep lab techniques and statistical analyses (SPSS / SAS / R) using large datasets, and strong writing and communication skills highly desirable.

    This is a full-time position, with benefits, with an initial 1-year term. Salary is based on post-degree experience (MD preferred) in accordance with current NRSA rates.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Doctorate degree (MD preferred) in biomedical sciences required. Experience in conducting sleep studies highly desired. Applicant should have the organizational skills necessary to manage the responsibilities of a daily research project, including data extraction, processing and analyses.
