Reporting This position reports to the Laboratory Manager. Directly supervises the Laboratory Analysts and Lab / Admin Assistant.
Primary Responsibilities Responsible for assisting the Laboratory Manager in organizing the day-to-day activities of the Laboratory department.
Specific Responsibilities
Assist in organizing the day-to-day activities to ensure all quality system and customer requirements are fully met.
Performs order review and acknowledgement on a timely manner.
Attends to client’s queries and / or job requests relating to laboratory.
Ensures efficient operations and systematic workflow to meet job deadlines based on job priority in order to avoid work backlog and delays.
Performs various administrative duties that include, but are not limited to, training / coaching analysts, assigning / delegating work, and monitoring lab analysts’ compliance with standard test methods, established company policies, quality procedures and work instructions.
Coordinates and discusses details of client’s instructions / requirements to direct subordinates.
Ensures correct and accurate reporting of test results and timely dispatch of test reports / certificates.
Performs technical jobs in the absence of his subordinates.
Implements, updates and trains subordinates on technical updates such as revisions in standard test methods.
Ensures that all equipment being used in the laboratory are within its calibration / verification period and in good working conditions.
Ensures that established quality objectives and plans for laboratory are implemented, measured, monitored and reviewed on regular basis to determine compliance, suitability and adequacy.
Assists in addressing raised SIRs (Service Improvement Request) and ensure provision of proper and timely corrective / preventive actions.
Ensures sufficient stocks of all laboratory supplies for smooth laboratory operations.
Checks and signs test report sheets.
Signs service proposals, test reports / certificates and cost of analysis in the absence of the Laboratory Manager.
In the absence of the Laboratory Manager, approves requests for laboratory supplies, overtime reports and leave applications of staff with valid reasons.
Decision-making as to work assignments of direct subordinates.
Recommendatory authority on corrective action for staff misconduct involving penalties of up to five working days.
Ensures compliance to the Group and national policies including but not limited to the maintenance of the Quality Management System
Operating to the highest standards of ethics, in accordance with the SGS Code of Integrity.

Maintains a sound understanding of HSE management techniques and the commitment to deliver HSE performance that meets the expectations of SGS.
Maintains a strong knowledge of and commitment to Group and Divisional HSE Targets and Objectives by setting, monitoring and formally reporting local Targets and Objectives.
Balances production and cost control demands with HSE needs while not allowing one to become subordinate to the other.
Ensures risk assessments are completed for all routine and non routine activities.
Ensures Safe Working Methods are in place and applied in all operations and as identified by contract.
Identifies client and project HSE requirements and ensures these are built into the work while supporting the Group HSE Management System.
Ensures that suppliers / contractors are apprised of relevant HSE requirements and that any adverse HSE impacts of their activities or products are managed and minimized.
Identifies and provides relevant HSE training for their personnel.
Actively promotes good housekeeping and safe use of equipment.
Participates in incident investigations involving their department personnel.
Assists HSE staff in the completion of department HSE audits.
Profile
Education : College graduate (BS Chemistry and Chemical Engineering ) , preferably with professional license.
