These positions are to work on NIH-funded projects involving the impact of oxidants derived from tobacco products on short and long-term effects on lung health.

One position focuses on the role of electronic cigarette-derived oxidants on the development of lung cancer. The postdoctoral fellow will conduct laboratory research on the chemical composition of tobacco smoke and e-cigarette aerosols with a particular emphasis on free radicals and other oxidants and their impact on biological markers of oxidative stress.

In addition, they will perform studies in laboratory animal models to assess the impact of smoke and aerosol exposure on specific cancer-related pathways in the lung.

Qualified individuals should have a strong interest in the areas of oxidative stress, free radicals, tobacco and lung cancer.

Ideal candidates will have research experience on oxidative stress and its biological effects. Candidates should be well organized, experienced in working in a multidisciplinary team, and have good writing skills.

Another position focuses on the impact of oxidants derived from cigarette smoke and electronic cigarette aerosols on pulmonary health and the development of COPD.

The postdoctoral fellow will conduct laboratory research as well as animal model exposure studies evaluating the impact of tobacco related exposures on biological markers of lung injury, oxidative stress, inflammation with special emphasis on epithelial biology and pulmonary physiology.

Qualified individuals should have a strong interest in the above areas. The ideal candidate will have research experience in cell culture, molecular biology, animal models of lung injury, inflammation, epithelial biology, and / or pulmonary physiology.

Candidates should have excellent oral and written communication skills, experienced in working in a multidisciplinary team, and have good writing skills.

Both postdoctoral fellows will be expected to author publications resulting from their research and will be provided mentored opportunities to obtain independent grant support in later years of their fellowship.
