Mechanical Engineer

Lubrizol are looking to recruit a Mechanical Engineer to join the R&D facility located in Hazelwood, Derbyshire.

The successful candidate will be part of the team responsible for the design, manufacture and support of mechanical systems and equipment within our vehicle engine and driveline testing facility.

Whilst the role is based within the Mechanical Testing department it also provides mechanical engineering support across the site within a chemical laboratory environment.

In this role you will lead a team of Technicians who manufacture and assemble new test installations and maintain the testing infrastructure.

The role requires you to provide both team and technical leadership, to be successful you will possess experience from a manufacturing or maintenance environment with the motivation to build upon this to develop the team.

You will manage the design and delivery of solutions ensuring specification, quality and schedule requirements are met. The ability to work co-operatively within a larger support team is essential.

You will operate as a technical authority for the mechanical systems used within the organisation such as air handling, cooling water and hydraulics and ideally have experience of machining and fabrication processes.

In this role you will :

  • Act as a mechanical engineering design authority with accountability for the safety, functionality and mechanical integrity of solutions.
  • Develop solutions to meet customer requirements through application of technical knowledge and innovation.
  • Provide leadership to a team of mechanical technicians including coaching and mentoring to support individual career development and performance management.
  • Coordinate work requests in line with customer requirements, prioritising technician workload and managing the associated purchasing and logistics demands.
  • Support the planning and implementation of department Infrastructure improvements.
  • Maintain a maintenance strategy to meet both department and site needs for mechanical integrity.
  • Issuing of permit to work for both internal personnel and for 3rd party contractors to control high risk activities; e.
  • g. hot work, confined space entry etc.

  • To manage and maintain H&SE standards, risk assessments and competency registers.
  • Lead structured problem solving and local improvement activity,also defining and implementing best practices.
  • To be successful you will need :

  • A Degree in Mechanical Engineering ideally having achieved or working towards chartered status.
  • Relevant professional experience in Mechanical Engineering, gained within a manufacturing or development environment, hands-on experience of fabrication and machining would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of test cell infrastructure systems would be advantageous.
  • Understanding of technical drawings, manufacturing methods and techniques.
  • Experience of running a maintenance programme.
  • Ability to confidently and effectively communicate at all levels.
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Project an advantage)
  • Experience of Solidworks 3D CAD software and CNC or equivalent packages.
  • Awareness of safety legislation, procedures and ISO quality systems.
