JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS :

The Center for Medical Innovation within the Office of the Vice Dean for Research and Graduate Studies at The Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Accelerating Innovation Project Manager.

  • Primary responsibilities include : oversee project management for a select group of high-potential / high-need innovations ensuring proper development and commercialization pathways are established;
  • appraise value of intellectual property from new / potential invention disclosures by determining stage of development, the unmet medical need and market opportunity;
  • create the development and commercialization path for high potential Penn State technologies by working alongside researchers, clinicians, and technology licensing officers;
  • lead innovation trainings, education programs and workshops; represent CMI at meetings and regional events; support the development of an entrepreneurial culture within the College of Medicine and Penn State Health by providing coaching and mentorship to project teams that includes technology commercialization plan, regulatory pathways, reimbursement models and funding strategies;
  • facilitate relationships between faculty and industry partners to develop and derisk translational research by supporting research presentation and breaking down communication barriers between academia and industry;
  • and other duties as defined.

    The Center for Medical Innovation provides a service-oriented organization within the Penn State system and the local community to deliver economic and social value from Penn State Medical Innovation.

  • The Center supports the research enterprise at the College of Medicine and related college efforts impacting health; develops and deploys valuable research to impact human health;
  • works with a collaborative team to maximize the value of Penn State intellectual property; and creates positive impact on the economic development and social well-being of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

    This job will be filled as a level 2 or 3 depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience.

    Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred, in a technical or business discipline plus two or more years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    A technical background in biomedical / life sciences with business education and / or experience along with a working knowledge of commercialization strategies is desirable.

    The candidate should have excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, must demonstrate effectiveness in understanding and presenting business / scientific information, ability to effectively communicate technical information to a range of customers, strong management skills, attention to detail, self-motivated and assertive with the ability to work independently in a team environment and have the ability to establish priorities.

    Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR).

    The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters.

    The ASR is available for review .
